March Update

Date: March 31, 2026 March saw me kick off my triathlon season with the Scottish Duathlon Championships. Having built fitness and completed weeks of consistent training, it was time to test my form at the East Fortune Duathlon (Scottish Champs) before the British Triathlon Super Series performance assessments in a few weeks. To avoid disrupting training, I only did a light taper, one day out. The race consisted of a 5km run, 20km bike, and a 2.5km run. The race began with a large front group of runners. The start wasn’t too fast; everyone went off conservatively, saving energy for later. During the first run, I stayed near the front but tucked behind the leaders, sheltered from the wind. Nothing exciting happened; it was just a big group running conservatively. We finished the 5km in slightly over 16 minutes, feeling comfortable. The bike was nine laps of a small circuit with one technical corner. It was also exposed, so the winds were fierce. The first lap was easy, just sitting in the pack. I led into the technical corner and, thanks to my good bike handling, created a gap. Once the gap opened, I put the pressure on and dragged a group of four away. Later, after a crash in my group and one guy being dropped, I was left with one other in the lead, fighting for the win. My legs were sore from the hard bike. I ran with the other guy for about a kilometre, then dropped off partly due to stomach issues. I crossed the line in second place and first Scottish, claiming the Scottish Duathlon Champion title. Now, my focus is solely on PA’s as training becomes more race-specific.
